This week, at Oracle OpenWorld, Oracle finally announced the release of their Fusion Applications. These new Fusion Apps, are the so-called next-generation of enterprise applications.
Customers will have the ability to deploy Fusion applications in a variety of methods such as on premise, SaaS, or even hosted. The Fusion Apps are designed to integrate with Oracle’s existing enterprise applications, and compliment their capabilities. The apps, demonstrated at OpenWorld, will feature highly customizable interfaces with embedded business intelligence tools to deliver unparalleled real-time reporting.
However, even with the announcement of the Fusion Apps, Oracle is not pushing their existing clients to migrate to a purely Fusion App system, and they will continue to invest in their existing ERP suites such as JD Edwards, E-Business Suite, and Peoplesoft.
Currently, the first release of Fusion apps will contain 7 different product lines with numerous modules, but the majority of the modules will contain certain functionality gaps, which will make it unrealistic for organizations to even consider a full Fusion App solution. Although the apps will not be the perfectly polished applications that one would expect after more than five years of work, they do bring together some of the best features from Oracle’s Peoplesoft, Siebel, and E-Business Suite that will definitely be nice compliments to existing solution portfolios.
